Sanskrit, the spiritual language of ancient India, holds a profound vibrational quality that can be experienced through chanting.
Join this one-day immersion for a rich experience of Sanskrit's sounds and scripts, and an introduction to the basics of Veda chanting. Gain confidence and clarity to support chanting, recitation, meditation, translating, and other practices deepened by grounding in Sanskrit.
Learn some fundamentals of Sanskrit in an embodied, experiential and non-academic way. The morning will be a gentle boot camp in the sounds and vibrations of Sanskrit. We will focus on developing an intimacy with its sounds; and become familiar with their exact location, feeling their force and power, and the unique way they vibrate the palate and engage the breath. We will also familiarize ourselves with the Devanāgarī and transliteration scripts.
The afternoon will include an introduction to some basics of Veda chanting. We will learn to chant mantras that include Shanti, or peace, mantras, and the well-known Gāyatrī Mantra.
There will be a break for lunch. Bring your own from home or there are local options.
