Mysore
Mysore-style Ashtanga is like a private lesson within the context of a group class. Each student practices at their own pace, with instruction and guidance from the teacher. (This includes optional physical adjustments.) This class is for all practitioners of any level including total beginner; we meet you where you are. Newcomers will be taught the primary series of Ashtanga bit by bit, at the appropriate pace for the individual. If you are new to Mysore, read the FAQ here.
Led Primary Series
Guided primary series classes, counted in Sanskrit, are intended for students who regularly practice Mysore-style Ashtanga, and they serve a few purposes: 1. Give an experience of the energetic effect of a group of practitioners moving and breathing together; 2. Remind students of the correct breathing, correct movements and clean up some of the unnecessary fidgeting that happens when one is left to one’s own devices; and 3. Allow a deeper immersion into the focus and concentration aspect of the practice. Ideally, it can take you out of your head, and into your body. This is not a beginner’s class, but proficiency is not required. All are welcome to come— if you don’t currently practice Ashtanga, let it be an enjoyable taste of what could lie ahead of you.
